Childhood

Childhood by Bubbles Kandhari

Childhood by Bubbles Kandhari

What would I not give to have you back

My childhood, my innocence, my carefree days

The little pranks with a twinkle in the eyes

The thrill of the first downpour, the shouts and cries

The little smack of the protective parents

The scolding and chiding for the mischief apparent.

Simple pleasures, fun filled laughter

Greatest tensions were teachers and masters

There was no worry about what is cooking

Only wish to know how one is looking

Which dress is good, what color is right

This is too bright and that a shade light.

The first love, the infatuations

The feeling of exhilaration

Dreams of youth and its aspirations

Life of parties and jubilations.

Those days were fleeting

Youth too is so deceiving

What we see now is old age peeping

Forever with us and slowly creeping.

A stand of grey hair near the temples

A little weight around the midriff

Gone are the lithe and lissome figures

Slender, agile and supple features.

This grey hair is now for keeps

Laugh now you may though your heart bleeds

Laughing lines are what we see

Yet laughing matter now it cannot be.

Gone are the days of deep slumber

Restless nights are what I remember

Could these days not be preserved forever also?

Oh! My childhood, my innocence, my carefree days

Where are you gone, I miss you so.
