I Remember
I remember – I was a shy young bride
Stepping into a new threshold of life
This day today of twenty years
Was filled with apprehension and fears
Song on my lips and stars in my eyes
Dreaming of the beginning of some beautiful ties.
I remember – the first time you held my hand
We are as if in heaven and not on this land
Deeply lost in each other’s eyes
Oblivious to the world’s shouts or cries.
I remember – like all young people in love
Had lots to discover and to discuss
Over each other we would make so much fuss
The world seemed to end if one got cross.
I remember – the now silly quarrels and small tiffs
They added spice to a sometimes dull bit
Expectations run high when we are very young
Tempers volatile with sometimes sharp tongue
But the joy of making up was ever so great
It made up for the tensions the quarrels would create.
I remember – your reaction to our first born
Too nervous to hold but so proud when told
That you were the father of this new born
Your eyes were misty and looks forlorn.
I remember – for the second your pacing back and forth
Wondering why the doctor was not yet brought
When the cry of your son finally heard
With sheer joy you went berserk.
What can we ask from God today
When he has given all without our say
Our greatest treasure our sons today
Please God continue to bless them also we pray.
Lead us on with your kindly light
To do good deeds and reach great heights
We have no cause to fret or worry
Toddy on our twentieth anniversary
Yet another milestone in the life
Of any husband and his wife.
Twenty years of being together
Needs to put our cap a feather
Two decades it is today
But I still remember all
As only just yesterday.
